What's On The Course?

Frame Work

  • QCF Certificate:  The qualification covers birth to 19 years and has a minimum credit value of 35 credits. The qualification is made up of 13 mandatory units, and various optional units (depending on your job role) to make up your 35credits.
  • Function Skills : English & Maths ( Proxy if you have attained GCSE’s at grade C or above or if you have the relevant Key skills at level 2)
  • ERR : Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Paediatric First Aid
  • PLTS : Personal Learning and Thinking Skills


Assessment Information

QCF Certificate / ERR / PLTS: Each student is assigned an assessor and a tutor to support you through your qualification. You will be assessed at your place of work/placement, to cover all the relevant performance criteria. For evidence that cannot be observed, this will be covered in a number of ways.  Through assignment, professional discussion, verbal/questions, witness testimony, reflective accounts etc.  The tutor will deliver all the underpinning knowledge that is relevant to the qualification.  
Functional Skills:  Math & English Test (Attend weekly workshop to update your skills)
Paediatric: 12 First Aid course (Two Sessions)


How Long Does It Take?

The Apprenticeship lasts for 18 months.


When Does It Start?

The Apprenticeship can start at any time.


Who Is It Suitable For?

It is suitable for students who wish to work with children aged 0 – 19 years of age, in a variety of settings with the exception of schools.


What Are The Entry Requirements?

The entry requirements are based on a satisfactory fully enhanced police check. Successfully complete initial assessment to a level 1 and have the ability to work and research independently combined with a confident attitude towards the care and education of children.


What Can I Do Next?

Progression into employment under supervision or progression onto the level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship course.


How Much Does It Cost?

The Apprenticeship is fully funded by the college.
