Cleaning Services (Intermediate)

What's On The Course?

The course consists of seven units covering a range of skills and related practices based on the Cleaning.

In this course students will learn a range of cleaning techniques and skills including health and safety; working effectively with customers and others; and communication skills. Depending on their employer, they might learn how to clean food areas, confined areas, high-risk areas or the inside of passenger transport vehicles.

The Apprenticeship programme is a mix of real work and learning, combining valuable experience on the job with focussed and relevant training and follows a level 2 programme of training over 6-8 months. This programme covers many aspects of professional cleaning, from mechanised street cleaning to the maintenance of hard floors.

There's more to cleaning than most people realise - cleaning staff can sometimes work at crime and accident scenes, or for the National Health Service ensuring cleanliness of hospital wards, waiting rooms and offices.

Apprentice will learn a range of cleaning techniques and skills including health and safety, working effective with customers and others and communication skills. LEARNING SKILLS AND OUTCOMES Competence Element - Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services - Practical skills and knowledge used in the role Technical Element - Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles - Skills and Knowledge required to perform the role Skills Element - English Level 1 - Maths Level 1 - Written and verbal communication - Use of numerical data Other Additional Study - Employment Responsibilities and Rights - Knowledge of the responsibilities and rights of workers, the role of the organisation within the wider industry and the effect of public law and policy on industry.

Assessment Information

The programme is designed and offered using a variety of flexible, models and patterns of delivery to meet learner and business needs, creating a real and positive impact for both.

The apprenticeship consists of several parts, each assessed in their own way. NVQ - portfolio building showing evidence of what you know, understand and can do. This is largely completed in your workplace and is your responsibility to build up over the course of the apprenticeship.

EMPLOYER RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES - successful completion of a workbook.

TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE - pass an exam.

KEY / FUNCTIONAL SKILLS IN ENGLISH & MATHS - achieve the examination / portfolio assessments for each skill at the required level.


How Long Does It Take?

Course length: 36 weeks, 1 year.


When Does It Start?

The Apprenticeship can start at any time.


Who Is It Suitable For?

Street cleaning supervisor. You could progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship for Further Education.


What Are The Entry Requirements?

Students must be in paid employment of at least 16 hours a week.


What Can I Do Next?

Candidates may progress onto a higher level NVQ’s than they have currently undertaken, providing their current job role can generate relevant evidence. Successful candidates may consider some of our advice & guidance advance practitioner workshops or even the A1 Assessors Award.
There are also courses that could compliment the advice & guidance course such as mentoring or coaching qualifications.


How Much Does It Cost?

Apprenticeships are Government Funded. However you will be expected to provide basic stationery items, i.e. folder/plastic wallets for storing your NVQ evidence.


Where Does It Take Place?

Mainly in the workplace, the majority of your programme is spent undertaking work with your employer. Agreed off the job training at College will be discussed with you to suit your training programme.
