What's On The Course?

The Apprenticeship is a programme of vocational education and training whereby you will develop your skills whilst learning on the job, building up your knowledge and experience, gaining qualifications and earning money, all at the same time.

The programme includes an NVQ at level 2, which comprises three mandatory units and two optional units, chosen from two lists to suit the individual and the employer. The apprenticeship will also undertake functional skills, together with a technical certificate which provides knowledge for the NVQ.

The three mandatory units are:

  • Manage personal development
  • Develop working relationships with colleagues
  • Communicate information and knowledge

You can then choose one of the following two units:

  • Plan, allocate and monitor work of a team
  • Set objectives and provide support for team members

And one from a variety of units, including:

  • Manage conflict in a team
  • Lead and manage meetings
  • Make effective decisions
  • Manage customer service in own area of responsibility


How Long Does It Take?

Up to 18 months with 2 visits to College to take the functional skills examinations.


When Does It Start?

The Apprenticeship can start at any time.


Who Is It Suitable For?

This qualification is suitable for someone starting a new job doing day to day supervision of a team or who has been doing the job for a while and wants to develop themselves further.


What Are The Entry Requirements?

  • Basic skills assessment at Level 1
  • To be supervising a team of people
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Good attitude to learning
  • Enthusiasm for your occupational area
  • Willingness to achieve your goals
  • Minimum age of 16 years


What Can I Do Next?

Progress onto a higher level NVQ; promotion within the workplace or further career options in team leading or management.


How Much Does It Cost?

Apprenticeships are government funded, so there is no cost. However, you will need access to the internet either at home or at work and may wish to keep a file for notes and general information.


Where Does It Take Place?

The Apprenticeship will be completed in the work place.
