The maths unit is assessed by 3 assignments and 1 examination. The science is also assessed by 3 assignments and 1 examination. The other units are purely assessed by assignment work.

Who is it suitable for?
The course is designed for people who want to progress onto a HE course or want to go to university. The course is base around people who might have been out of education for a while or didn’t achieve the desired results to progress.
What are the entry requirements?
The course is aimed at 19+.
The willingness to learn, the patience to work through a problem and the desire to achieve, a fair understanding of the English language and maths are an advantage. The course is an engineering course, so you are expected to work in your own time.

What is this course?
In order to achieve the full Access to HE Diploma through the Asceitis awarding body you are required to undertake 2 x Level 2 units plus Level 2 Study Techniques (mandatory)and 2 x Level 3 units plus Level 3 Higher Education Tool Kit (mandatory).

Modules:
Psychology: The level 2 and the Level 3 introduces students to a variety of issues including interpersonal behaviour, prejudice and mental illness. It uses this as a basis on which to examine a range of approaches and research methods. This is a fascinating unit that provides underpinning knowledge useful in most career choices.
GCSE English Equivalent: The level 2 English Equivalent is useful for those students who did not achieve GCSE English at Grade C and above or for anyone wishing to update their literacy skills.
Higher Education institutes now require students to have GCSE Grade C and above in English but in many cases they will accept the GCSE English Equivalent that we offer in our programme. (However as always we advise the prospective student to contact their Higher Education Institution and clarify exactly what entry requirements they would accept for their particular chosen career path)
Human Physiology: The level 2 and Level 3 develop an understanding of the functioning of the human body, by examining the body systems and the way in which they interact. These are essential units for anyone considering a career in nursing
Sociology: The Level 2 and the Level 3 investigate sociological approaches to the understanding of society. It examines family, education, class, and work and explores a range of themes including inequity, race, educational achievement, family diversity, social mobility, unemployment, gender and the consequences of economic and social change. This is a fascinating unit that provides underpinning knowledge useful in most career choices.
Study Techniques: This mandatory level 2 unit helps students returning to learn to plan, research, structure and procedure essays. It also helps to enable you to reference work and revise for exams.
Higher Education Tool Kit: This mandatory level 3 unit is essential for preparing students for moving on to Higher Education Institutions but also invaluable to all students. It helps you to produce a CV, a personal statement for university/college application as well as preparing you for interviews and presentations.
What are the Entry requirements?
Aged 19 year of age or over.
Informal interview
Diagnostic tests at interview lasting approximately 1 hour
Enthusiasm and motivation to learn. No formal qualifications needed.
How is the course assessed?
Level 2 – Portfolio assessed, two written assignments (no exam).
Level 3 – Three coursework assignments and one exam.
When does it start
The course starts with an induction week in September, and then runs throughout the year in term time until July. You will study for three days a week at the Lillyhall campus.
Progression opportunities
When you have successfully achieved your Full Access Award you can progress on to a Higher Education Institution to study at Diploma or Degree level.
Students normally progress into the following vocational areas: Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiography, Teaching, Social work and Youth and Community Work.

If you are on benefits or have a low income then there are various funds which may be available to you. There may be support with the costs of joining and coming to College if you an adult, and also help with childcare. If you are interested in securing a place on this course you will need to complete and submit an application form. Following this you will be invited to attend an information event at the college and have a personal interview with a member of the teaching team where you can discuss the course and your suitability.
