Beauty Therapy (Advanced)

Whats on the course?

The course will take one of two routes:

Beauty Therapy Nail Services

The qualification will complement the skills, knowledge and understanding gained at Level 2 and is focussed on producing highly proficient, occupationally competent professional Nail Technicians. The qualification contains advanced nail enhancement techniques including the use of electrical equipment.

Candidates can progress to this qualification from level 2 as it encourages candidates to

develop a specialism within the beauty industry. This qualification is suited to learners who wish to advance in their profession, those who wish to specialise in nails within their profession or to become nail salon managers and/or owners.

Beauty Therapy Massage

This qualification will complement the knowledge, understanding and skills gained at Level 2 and is focussed on producing highly proficient, occupationally competent professional beauty therapists specialising in massage.

This qualification will enable learners at a minimum to gain skills, knowledge and understanding required in order to perform massage treatments using a variety of techniques for clients for the purpose of relaxation and stress relief. Knowledge and understanding of health and safety is also an integral part of the qualification.

This qualification will equip learners with the required attributes, skills, knowledge and understanding needed to perform professional treatments for clients via employment or self employment in the Beauty Therapy industry.

This qualification is most suited to learners who wish to advance in their profession or to become salon managers and /or owners.

How Long Does it Take?
1 year, full-time.


When Does it Start?
The Apprenticeship can start at any time.

Who is it suitable for?
Anyone who wishes to progress within
the Beauty Therapy industry.

What are entry requirements?

NVQ 2 Beauty Therapy Level 2: enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to work to a higher level to further develop your skills. We would welcome enquiries from successful Level 2 students from other colleges and therapists currently working in industry and commercial salons.

What can i do next?

Further Beauty Therapy training. Additional training in Complimentary Therapies and Sports Therapy. Employment in salons, cruise ships, health and leisure centres.

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage (QCF) is made up of 6 mandatory units and a selection of optional units. The total number of credits for the optional units selected must be at least 7 credits.

Credit Value required: Minimum 44, Maximum 44.

Sub-components required: Minimum 6, Maximum 6.

Y/601/5875 - Monitor procedures to safely control work operations

A/600/7462 - Provide body massage treatments

D/600/7504 - Provide Indian head Massage

K/600/7523 - Carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils

J/600/7545 - Provide stone therapy treatments

R/600/1277 - Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities

Y/600/9090 - Provide Body Electrical Treatments

We offer workshops in Ear Piercing, Brazilian Waxing, Self Tan (Fake Bake, St Tropez), which incur an extra cost.

Who is it suitable for?
Anyone interested in gaining basic beauty skills.

What are the entry requirements?
A minimum of four grades D at GCSE level. A keen interest in Beauty Therapy and a good standard of personal presentation. Mature applicants are welcome and will be considered on an individual basis.

What can I do next?
Progressions onto NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy after successful completion of Level 2 and individual interview.

What’s on the Course?
Choose to follow either the Beauty or Hairdressing route and explore a variety of services offered in either industry

Assessment information The emphasis is on ‘learning by doing’ not on competence. For this reason, candidates are required to complete a number of assignments to show their attainment of practical skills and underpinning knowledge. Each assignment is divided into a series of tasks. To achieve each unit, candidates need to achieve all tasks. Learners will also be observed on a variety of Hairdressing or Beauty services.

How long does it take?
Up to 36 weeks

Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is intended for learners who wish to explore their interest in the Hair or Beauty sector. It will help them gain an insight about the industry; learn useful basic skills and relevant background knowledge

What are the entry requirements?
A keen interest in the Hair or Beauty Industry and good communication skills.

What can I do next?
Diploma2 (VRQ) in Hairdressing or Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy

How much does it cost?
Please contact Lakes College for advice on fees. Students may be eligible for remission from fees depending upon personal circumstances you will also need to purchase a kit & tunic approximately £150. In addition you will be expected to wear black trousers/skirt and small-heeled black shoes.
