What can I do next?

Successful Technician students can apply to become full members of the AAT which enables them to use the letters MAAT after their name.

You could choose to progress to train for further professional accountancy qualifications with ICAEW,CIMA,ICASor ACCA.

There are employment opportunities for AAT accounting technicians throughout the UK and many members practise as self-employed accountants

How will I be assessed?

As the ATT technician course is an NVQ it is assessed by a portfolio of evidence of competence, which will include a 4000 word work based project. There is also an additional requirement in four of the units to pass examinations which are externally set and marked.

How long does it take?

Two years full-time, alternatively a part-time option is available which takes three years. Either option
enables learners to work part-time or remain in employment at the same time as acquiring a Higher Education qualification.

HND Business Full Time – This is a 2 year course available as a daytime only option.

Year 1

What are the entry requirements?
It is anticipated that most students will have one or more of the following:
BTEC National or Advanced GNVQ in a relevant subject
At least one GCE A Level in a relevant subject 
Access to HE certificate
Appropriate work experience Due to the level of academic writing required candidates should also possess a GCSE in English language at Grade C or above.

Candidates will complete an introductory assessment prior to starting the course in order to judge suitability.

What is this course?

This is a 1-year full time course aimed at people who have an interest in Photography. You may be either considering a career directly in this industry or something that is linked to it, for example travel, media or the hospitality industry.

Success leads to

  • L1 Award in Photography
  • L2 Award in Photography
  • L2 Award in Customer Service (Hospitality, Leisure and Travel and Tourism)
  • L2 Certificate in Developing Enterprise Skills
  • World-wide Travel Destinations  (for Photography).

There is also an additional qualifications in Event Planning in Report Reps/ Cabin Crew which can be studied instead of the L2 Photography. The course will involve trips, visits and projects and all students will follow a course in Personal and Social Development and Functional Skills in English and maths. Learning is engaging, interactive and applied to the world of Photography.

Students will be taught by a professional photographer and have access to a modern studio and links to the photography/travel industry.

What are the Entry requirements?
You should have at least 5 GCSEs at grades D to G including English D or above, or a BTEC level 1 Diploma in subject and GCSE English at D or above. You should have an interest in photography, working with people and customer service; have good communication and keyboarding skills, and an interest in the travel as you will be on location at times in the UK and possibly abroad. In certain circumstances, you may have significant work experience or pass the induction process, which may cover some or all of the formal entry requirements. Student Services staff can help you with any aspect of the entry requirements.


How is the course assessed?
The Photography, Customer Service, Travel and Business and courses are continually assessed throughout the year by practical assignments and portfolio's.  Functional skills in English has practical assessments and a test; Functional Skills maths has a test

The course starts with an induction week in September, and then runs throughout the year in term time until July. You will  study for three days a week at the Lillyhall campus.

Progression opportunities
Upon successful completion students can progress to a full time level 3 (Advanced) course and eventually onto Higher Education, or move into employment in the industry e.g.leisure and tourism organisations, hospitality and customer service, the creative industries, including media including films, newspapers, magazines, catalogues; Fashion and interiors photography and styling. Social and portrait photography, advertising and marketing, merchandising and retail, business projects and administration.

Warehousing and Storage Level 2

Whats on the course?
The aim of this Apprenticeship is to provide the Warehousing Industry with staff who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to help their businesses grow and to provide a career path for Apprentices to higher level jobs and qualifications.

Assessment information
The Certificate in Warehousing and Storage at Level 2 is a combined qualification incorporating competence and knowledge, which are separately assessed.
Apprentices must achieve at least 10 credits for competence and at least 10 credits for knowledge when selecting units to meet the requirements of the SASE
The framework totals 41 credits which include competence, knowledge, the QCF Award: Employee Rights and Responsibilities in the Logistics Industry
Two Functional Skills of English and Maths Level 1.

How Long does it take?
The Apprenticeship will last for approximately 12 months, with 1 day a week in college and 4 days with your employer.

When does it start?
Open to inductions throughout the year

Who is it suitable for?
The Level 2 Apprenticeship is aimed at learners who want to develop skills and knowledge in the industry.

What are the entry Requirements?
4 GCSE’s at grade D or 3 GCSE’s at grade D plus either Literacy or Numeracy Basic Skills Assessment at Level 1.
Good attitude to learning.

Minimum age of 16 years.

The majority of the assessment is in the workplace.
