Each student is assigned an assessor to support you through your qualification. You will be assessed at your place of work/placement, to cover all the relevant performance criteria. What’s on the Course?
This course offers an exciting new pathway for you to develop your career in working with children and young people in education and/or care settings, and for those interested in pursuing a career in these sectors.
The Foundation Degree will enable children and young people practitioners and professionals, children’s services employees, teaching assistants, play workers, and interested students to have access to a higher level qualification that is directly relevant to day to day employment and experience in these sectors on a full or part time basis.
This new Foundation degree is designed to provide you with the opportunity to gain a level 4 qualification in working with children and young people C&YP) from ages 0 to 16 years, in a variety of settings including schools, children’s centres, extended schools, pre-school and care provision in both public, private, voluntary and independent organisations.

Modules will be delivered in a variety of ways suited to higher level study. Methods will include lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and independent research.
Learning at level 4 and above is very focused on independent study, and students will be expected to take responsibility for their own learning.

What can I do next?
Success in this Foundation Degree would allow you to continue onto the final year of an Honours Degree at the University of Central Lancashire. As well as the potential for others which are in development.

There are no examinations; work is both formatively and summatively assessed.We use a diverse range of assessment techniques such as portfolios, reports, essays, case studies as well as reflective journal.

What’s on the Course?
You will have the opportunity to work with children from birth to age 16 years and gain experience in schools, nurseries and baby placements. The course content is as follows:

What can I do next?
Employment within schools, nurseries, learning support, play work and play therapy, and as this course is equivalent to three A Levels you can progress on to higher education, including the foundation degree in Integrated education and care of young children and young people.

What’s on the Course?
This is a qualification to work with babies and young children, up to 16 years of age under supervision. Students will attend placement throughout the year a total of 65 days.

Who is it suitable for?
Candidates 16 years or over, who are enthusiastic and self motivated to learn and achieve. Interested in working with young children and have good communication skills and show a commitment to working with children.
What are the entry requirements?
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or above, English Literature and Language, Mathematics at grade D is essential.
All students must undertake a subject access check resulting in a satisfactory police check clearance.
What can I do next?
The qualification can be used to gain employment in the childcare sector, for example, nursery assistant, pre-school assistant or crèche assistant. Students can also progress to the following:
