The College follows the financial accounting stream for the Technicians stage. This comprises the following
units:

Financial Statements

Budgeting

Financial Performance

All students will be exempt from this final unit, if they have progressed from Level 3 or the AAT Intermediate.

Only those starting directly at this level will be required to complete the unit.

What are the entry requirements?

AAT Intermediate, NVQ Level 3 in Accounting or an exemption at Level 3.

What can I do next?

Successful Technician students can apply to become full members of the AAT which enables them to use the letters MAAT after their name.

You could choose to progress to train for further professional accountancy qualifications with ICAEW,CIMA,ICASor ACCA.

There are employment opportunities for AAT accounting technicians throughout the UK and many members practise as self-employed accountants

How will I be assessed?

As the ATT technician course is an NVQ it is assessed by a portfolio of evidence of competence, which will include a 4000 word work based project. There is also an additional requirement in four of the units to pass examinations which are externally set and marked.

How long does it take?

Two years full-time, alternatively a part-time option is available which takes three years. Either option
enables learners to work part-time or remain in employment at the same time as acquiring a Higher Education qualification.

What’s on the course?

The diploma incorporates experience in a real work environment , and so can only be delivered if you are aged 16 years and older. The qualification covers birth to 19 years and has a minimum credit value of 44 credits. The qualification is made up of 11 mandatory units, and various optional units (depending on your job role) to make up your 44 credits.

Each student is assigned an assessor to support you through your qualification. You will be assessed at your place of work/placement, to cover all the relevant performance criteria. For evidence that cannot be observed, this will be covered in a number of ways.  Through assignment, professional discussion, verbal/questions, witness testimony, reflective accounts etc.

Lakes College is offering FREE innovative programmes to prepare local workforces move in to renewable energies.

The funding from The European Social Fund (ESF) has been secured via Impact Housing – Carlisle Green Ways to work project. The project researches and demonstrates the need for technical and practical skills in the environmental sector, and develops skills in: renewable energy, energy efficiency, and recycling.
